Once upon a time, there was a parkrun challenge called ‘The Nelson Challenge’. Participants strived to complete events with event numbers that are multiples of 111. For example, 111, 222, 333, 444, 555 etc. Then parkrun HQ requested its discontinuation as an official challenge as it was leading to events having spikes in attendance that were difficult for volunteer teams to manage. However, its appeal clearly endures. On the 24/08/24, 1,708 participants attended Bushy parkrun #999. The continued allure of the Nelson Challenge might be why there were so many tourists at Burgess parkrun today.
Another explanation for today’s high number of participants might lie within numerology, where the number 5 symbolises our connection to the physical realm. When this number is amplified as 555, it signifies a profound transformation in one’s spiritual journey. It’s possible that today’s visitors were here to embrace those vibrant cosmic energies 😀
Regardless, Burgess Parkrun is always filled with positive vibes, with today’s date—22nd of the month—adding an additional twist to the proceedings.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, a tutu is a short skirt composed of numerous layers of thin, stiff fabric, typically worn by ballet dancers. However, what isn’t commonly mentioned is that this delightful garment often makes an appearance among parkrunners whenever the date falls on the 22nd—just like today!

Following a previous cancellation, Marie resumed her role as Run Director with today flowing without a hitch or a glitch just a flawless execution.
I had the pleasure of completing today’s event alongside Katie, who shared her inspiring journey. Despite her parents being avid runners, Katie had previously found little joy in running. However, her first experience at Worsley Woods parkrun in Manchester in 2014 ignited a passion within her. Having relocated to London, she continued to run and is now an active member of a local running club, participating in various parkruns and running events. This highlights the transformative power of parkrun for those who may have faced challenges with running in their earlier years.

With Tail Walkers present at every parkrun event, there’s a reassuring promise that no one will ever finish last.
If you forgot to wear your tutu today next month, the 22nd March will also be a Saturday, so don’t forget your tutu 😀
And tomorrow is the London Winter Run which starts and finishes at Traflagar Square perfect for those who want a Nelson Challenge.
Stay safe, happy running or walking and happy volunteering.

Always a good inspiring read
